Abstract

The Ed W. Clark Photograph Collection contains photographs that depict politicians and businesspeople in Southern Nevada from 1900 to 1975. The photographs depict several Democratic Party members, including U.S. Senators Pat McCarran and Berkeley Bunker, Nevada Assemblyman Harry Edward "Hap" Hazard, and Nevada Governor Edward P. Carville. The photographs also depict political events, including the planting of a tree in the courthouse park of Las Vegas, Nevada, and a parade on Fremont Street in Las Vegas.

Abstract

The Irving Hirshon Photographs are comprised of 55 color slide photographs taken by Irving Hirshon in 1971 of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, downtown Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas Strip. Hirshon is believed to have taken the slides in the summer of 1971 on a West Coast trip to celebrate his twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.

The photographs depict mines, events, buildings, people, and landscapes in Tonopah, Nevada. Included in the collection are photographs of the 1923 fire in Goldfield, Nevada.

Images consist primarily of locations in and around Tonopah, Goldfield, and Wells, Nevada, including Dobro's Nevada Cafe in Tonopah. Many images feature Dobro with friends and associates. A small number of images show locations in Southern California.

Subjects include performers in costume, showgirls, comedians, advertisements for shows, performances, and some of the venues at which Minsky's shows were held, including the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino, the Aladdin Hotel and Casino, and the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Images include scenes from sketches performed on the show, group shots of the cast members off-set, and portraits of Wall.

The Kiel Family Photographs (approximately 1854-1989) contains glass plate negatives of members of the Kiel and George families, as well as neighbors from the Stewart and Wilson ranches and ranch workers. The majority of the photographs were taken at the Kiel Ranch site in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection consists of the original glass plate negatives, as well as photographic print and negative duplicates made using the originals.
