The Thomas J. Hickey Photograph Collection (1987-1989) contains color and black-and-white photographic prints of Thomas J. Hickey during his tenure as a Nevada State Senator. The collection also includes photographic prints of the Sparks, Nevada train yard and the Home of the Good Shepard church in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Biographical / Historical Note
Thomas Joseph Hickey was born on January 4, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. In the early 1960s, after serving in the United States Army during the Korean War, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and ran a snowmobile business, Tom Hickey Recreation. Hickey served in the Nevada Assembly from 1973 to 1982 and the Nevada Senate from 1983 to 1994. While serving as an assembly member, Hickey married Liliam Lujan. During his tenure, Hickey worked on a number of legislative measures pertaining to education, veteran’s affairs, and criminal justice. He also served on various committees and organizations, including the Agriculture Committee, Western Conference of the Council of State Governments, Economic Development and Tourism Committee, Committee on Transportation, and the High-Level Radioactive Waste/Hazardous Materials Transportation Task Force. After retiring from office in 1994, Hickey continued to be active in the community. He served on the Taxi Cab Authority Board for two terms and was a founding member of the North Las Vegas Lions Club and the North Las Vegas Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He also formed the Citizens for Active Management of the Frenchman-Sunrise Area Committee, which helped protect the Great Unconformity geological site, as well as areas containing the endangered Las Vegas Bearpaw poppy.
Thomas J. Hickey passed away on October 19, 2016.
