Joni Naves-Neal Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Joni Naves-Neal Photograph Collection (approximately 1980-1982) contains two black-and-white photographic prints, one color photographic print, and one photographic negative. Two of the black-and-white photographic prints and the photographic negative are reproductions of an image of three gamblers seated at an overturned table with gaming materials and steins from approximately 1880. The final item is a color photographic print of the Tower Casino sign in Stateline (Primm), Nevada from 1982.

Abstract

The Lloyd Gill Photograph Collection (1979) consists of reproduction black-and-white photographic prints and negatives of images Gill took in Las Vegas, Nevada from approximately 1960 to 1969. The images depict black residents' experiences at Las Vegas hotels, casinos, and nightclubs in the predominantly black West Las Vegas. Locations include the Carver House Hotel and Casino, the El Rio Club, Town Tavern, the Cove Hotel, and the Brown Derby Club.

Abstract

The John Steiger Photograph Collection contains black-and-white photographic prints of H. E. Steiger, John Steiger's father, in and around Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1920s. Images depict H. E. Steiger and various other identified and unidentified individuals in various locations surrounding Las Vegas, including Wilson Ranch, Mount Charleston, and Boulder Canyon. Some images of the Las Vegas Grammar School include John Steiger's mother, who was an elementary school teacher in Las Vegas from 1919 to 1920. The majority of items in this collection are digital surrogates, and the donor retains the original items.

Abstract

The Ron Lawrence Photograph Collection contains mainly photographs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) events (approximately 1980-1994, 2013) around Las Vegas, Nevada taken by Ron Lawrence. The collection consists primarily of photographs of the First Annual Gay Pride Banquet and Awards hosted at the Moyer Student Union at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), events at the Gay Academic Union at UNLV, and the first Gay Pride celebration in Las Vegas. Also included are photographs of the First Annual Honorarium by the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada, personal photographs of Ron Lawrence and his friends, and parties at the home of Ron Lawrence and Ernie Egyd.

The Suzy Broeg Photograph Collection (approximately 1950-1959) contains six black-and-white photographs depicting Suzy Broeg's parents, Edie and Karl Kraus, with Wilbur and Toni Clark in the Kraus home located at 2020 W. Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three of the photographs show Wilbur and Toni Clark, Monique de Montigue (?), and various friends and family members at the home of Karl and Edie Kraus. There are also three souvenir dinner photographs taken at various casinos showing Karl and Edie Kraus with friends.
