Scope and Contents

Hughes Productions series (1920-1992) primarily details the production, advertising, and censorship for The Outlaw, a film directed by Howard Hughes. Materials include advertising and publicity, editing, legal, production and direction, story development, administrative, distribution, censorship, and financial records, as well as film soundtracks and records from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and United Artists Corporation. The series also contains ledgers, telegrams, newspaper clippings, music sheets and scores, reports, memoranda, agreements, correspondence, affidavits, analyses, screenplays, synopses, and story treatments. Black-and-white photographic prints and negatives include publicity, production, direction, set, and location scouting stills.

Corporate records contain administrative, legal, and financial reports, contracts, and correspondence pertaining to business operations. Also included are distribution materials from the MPAA and United Artists Corporation.

UNLV Libraries Collection on the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe

Abstract

The UNLV Libraries Collection on the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe (approximately 1974-1990) contain oral history transcripts of Paiute community members from approximately 1974 to 1977 and reproductions of Bureau of Indian Affairs correspondence, legal documents, annual reports, and census information regarding the area formerly known as the Las Vegas Indian Colony located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The documents contain information about the original transfer of property ownership from Helen J. Stewart to the United States, who acted on behalf of the Paiute people in 1911, the establishment of the original site location, and annual reports which include a narrative about the community, census information, and health reports of the population living in the area. The collection contains no original documents.

Harmon Family Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Harmon Family Photograph Collection contains black-and-white and color photographic prints, negatives, postcards, and slides of the Harmon family in Las Vegas and Boulder City, Nevada between approximately 1900 and 1983. Las Vegas photographs depict the Harmon family in their home, at a ranch, and at Las Vegas High School. Boulder City photographs include a wedding and a view of Black Canyon, Nevada. Lastly, the collection also includes photographs of the Harmon family with various people, including the Wengert family and Howard Cannon, at receptions, ceremonies, and posing in front of Las Vegas buildings.

Henry and Anita Schuster Papers

Abstract

Collection is comprised of correspondence, speeches, essays, meeting minutes, photographs, research materials, publications, press clippings, awards, and event programs (1941-2011) that document the life of Henry Schuster, and his work with his wife Anita. Materials are mainly related to the Holocaust and to Holocaust memory and survivor organizations (especially the Holocaust Survivor's Group of Southern Nevada, which the couple founded, and L’Œuvre de Secours aux Enfants). Genealogical information is also included, as well as records of Henry Schuster’s time in the U.S. Army and his studies at the Manhattan Technical Institute.

The James Cashman Sr. Photograph Collection (approximately 1905 to 1975) consists of black-and-white photographic prints, negatives, slides, and albums as well as a glass plate negative. The photographs depict four major subjects: Cashman's family, friends, and associates; Cashman's businesses; the Hoover Dam and Colorado River; and various locations across Nevada.

The Ruby Duncan Photograph Collection on Operation Life (1970s-1980s) is comprised primarily of photographic prints with some corresponding 35 mm negatives of Ruby Duncan and other Operation Life organizers, as well as important organization buildings. Materials include photographs of Ruby Duncan, Aldine Weems, Renee Diamond, and Jack Anderson in the original Operation Life Las Vegas, Nevada Operation Life headquarters and the regional office in San Francisco, California. Also pictured are other employees and beneficiaries of the organization at a Christmas Party.
