Yoxen begins her interview by discussing how she first arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada to work for the U.S. State Department in the 1950s. She then describes her childhood in Alabama, competing in the Miss America pageant, and her life in Miami, Florida. Yoxen also discusses living in North Africa and Berlin, Germany while working for the State Department as a clerk. She then talks about moving around with her sister and her family, and eventually coming to Las Vegas. She describes what Las Vegas was like in the 1950s. Yoxen ends her interview with a discussion on her family, her husband's work, and their recreational activities.
On February 18th, 2005, Dr. Margaret Louis and Maureen Madison-Kane interviewed Jean (Maltrotti) Rambo (born in Rutherford, North Carolina) in her home in Carlsbad, California. The interview covers healthcare in Southern Nevada. During the interview, Rambo discusses the difficulty of raising funds for mental health. She also talks about her career in nursing; she was a cadet nurse, and the nurse matron in a local jail in Las Vegas. She was also director, associate director for nursing education at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital. She discusses nurses as administrators in Nevada and her posts as chairman of the bylaws committee and executive director of the Nevada Nurses Association.
Joel Bergman oral history interview conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee White on August 03, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Bergman discusses his architectural career, which began with his graduation in architecture from the University of Southern California (USC). Oral history interviews with Will Vicuna conducted by Stefani Evans on June 23 and July 3, 2023 for Reflections: the Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. In the first interview, Vicuna goes into detail about his family's history, and his parents' life in Quezon, Philippines. When his brother sent Will a postcard of the newly opened Hilton Hotel and Casino, Will decided he would move to Las Vegas as soon as he completed his psychology degree in 1970. He concludes the first interview discussing his employment at the Hilton and the Flamingo Hilton, his 1972 marriage, and his 1973 UNLV graduation in Hotel Administration. In the second interview, Vicuna talks about his wife, Felicidad, who graduated from University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila in Medical Technology. He shares details about her career, and then talks about his own career in hospitality, working in a number of Las Vegas hotels including the Hilton and Flamingo Hilton, Palace Station, Peppermill Mesquite, and the Golden Eagle in Pahrump. Stephen Compan interviews entrepreneur Donald Edward Borsack on the front porch of his home in Las Vegas. Born in Bell, California in 1928, Borsack moved to Las Vegas in 1936. Occupations Borsack has had include insurance adjuster, clothing salesman, proprietor and owner of four El Portal Luggage stores. During this interview Borsack discusses the growth of Nevada, and sports and recreation in the early days, including Nevada’s first professional baseball team.
Oral history interview with J. D. Morris conducted by his son, Dan Morris, in approximately 1974 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Morris discusses moving to Southern Nevada in 1942 and life in Caliente, Nevada during that time. He describes the mining and railroad activity near Caliente, as well as his career as a jeweler and watchmaker. Morris also discusses gambling in Southern Nevada, nuclear weapons tests, and how the cities in Southern Nevada have expanded.
