Scope and Contents

The subject files and photographs series of the Hughes Electronics Corporation Records date from 1935-2003. This series contains subject files on the company history, some of its major technological developments, and its purchase by General Motors. Photographs in this series document Hughes developed technologies in use by NATO forces, development of the Galileo probe, the H-1 Racer, and communication satellites. Also in this series are files and photographs of the NASA Pioneer 10/Jupiter encounter.

Oral history interview with Agnes Gauger conducted by Coleen Mancini on February 24, 1977 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Gauger discusses significant changes and growth in Southern Nevada, including gambling and other industries, family life and recreation, and the early atomic tests. Gauger also discusses housing in Las Vegas, Nevada, Howard Hughes, the McCarran Airport, medical facilities and education in Southern Nevada.

Oral history interview with Kirk Kerkorian conducted by K.J. Evans on February 10, 1999 for the Las Vegas Review-Journal First 100 Oral History Project. In this interview Kirk Kerkorian discusses Howard Hughes and Jerry Williams and how they were two men who he respected and learned from. He also talks about how Jerry Williams introduced him to Las Vegas, Nevada. He then discusses how he was ecstatic when he saw Las Vegas for the first time and how he helped build Bally's, The International, and the MGM Grand Hotel.

Price begins the interview by talking about his family life, childhood, and education on Oliver Ranch near Blue Diamond, Nevada. He then talks about the past of Oliver Ranch, what changed, and what structures the property had before. Lastly, Price speaks about meeting Howard Hughes, exploring the mines, and other caretakers.

Oral history interview with Daniel Van Epp conducted by Stefani Evans on April 19, 2017 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Van Epp discusses his upbringing in Virginia. He talks about his initial interest in architecture, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1995, and becoming President of the Howard Hughes Corporation. Van Epp recalls the development of Summerlin, the increase of homes being built in that area, and the construction of the I-215 Beltway. Lastly, Van Epp discusses master planning communities and the construction of Symphony Park in downtown Las Vegas.
