    Page - 3 COMMENTS - JOHN F. DAVIS, SOFTBALL During 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957, John was selected Top Pitcher in the State of Nevada. During these years,, he averaged 15 strikeouts per game and averaged 17 no-hitters for the season, half of these games being perfect ballgames. In the year 1960, John received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force. He returned to Nevada to make this his home. He became employed at the Sands Hotel as a busboy. During the one year he was employed he played softball for the Sands Hotel Team. He then resigned his position here and went to work for the Nevada Testsite and was in their employ from the years 1961 through 1969. In 1969, he returned to his same position at the Sands Hotel. Shortly after, he was promoted to a bellman position and holds this position to date. During 1960 through 1967, John was considered far and away the most outstanding individual player in the state as the No. 1 pitcher, an outstanding hitter and bunter, b?·st fielding pitcher and fastest player in the Southern Nevada Area. He Is also considered one of the best defensive outfielders in the state along with being a top consistent home-run hitter. ?╜ 1968 marks John's 13th year of playing softball in Southern Nevada. Combining his pitching and outfielder playing for the last 15 years in representing the Air Force and State of Nevada, John is considered as one of the-top softball players in the country. He has received more "Most Valuable Player Awards" than any other player in the State of Nevada. o In 1970, John became a softball Manager for the Hughes Nevada Operations. /In 1971, the team name was changed to Hughes Tool Co. During that year, Hughes Tool Co. was the strongest team ever to play in the state of Nevada under John's management. Hughes Tool Co. won the metro-fast pitch league with a 20-0 record. They also won the Southern Zone Tournament and placed 2nd in the State Tournament. In 1972, John was again Manager for the Las Vegas Raiders softball team. They won the metro-fast pitch league, with a 20-1 record. The Raiders finished 2nd in the Phoenix, Arizona Memorial Day Tournament and placed 3rd in the Bishop, California "Tournament. This year marks John's 20th year in softball, John's comments to the softball fans and sponsors: "Because of people like you, make people like me, just plain love to play softball"!11
