Abstract

The Henry Kronberg Papers is comprised of photographs, newspaper clippings, and business records from 1945 to 2017 that document Henry Kronberg's business, Stoney's Pawn Shop, his personal life, and his involvement with the Jewish community in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection also includes A Place of Hope, a documentary about the Warsaw Remembrance Garden at Temple Beth Sholom in Las Vegas featuring Kronberg.

Abstract

Citizen Alert is a Nevada-based environmental organization established in 1975 in response to Yucca Mountain being considered as the repository for the nation's nuclear waste. The records in the collection date from 1971-1999, with the bulk of the records from 1988-1996 and focused on issues of concern to Southern Nevada. The collection includes a large subject and administration file containing the organization’s mailings, fliers and newsletters regarding environmental issues and events, newsletters of other environmental organizations, press releases and brochures from a number of government agencies, and newspaper clippings on specific environmental topics. The collection also contains a number of environmental reports from federal, state, and local agencies as well as a number of conference and activist packets.

Jerry Morlan Professional Papers

Abstract

This collection contains material that documents the career of technology educator Jerry Morlan (1938-2000), primarily in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bulk of the materials date between 1986-1996 and refer to Morlan's role in integrating technology into the classroom in the Clark County, Nevada School District. They include numerous letters of thanks and recommendation from schools throughout the county, as well as Morlan's professional writings and newspaper clippings related to his advocacy of vocational learning in the industrial arts. Also included in the collection is a group of photographs that visually document student projects Morlan directed during the 1980s, as well as a videocassette program from 1991 that offered an introduction to technology.

Hank Castro Music Business Records and Audio Recordings

Abstract

The Hank Castro Music Business Records document Hank Castro's career in the music industry in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1969 to 1990. The bulk of the collection consists of original audio recordings from the Las Vegas Recording Studio. The collection also contains legal documents, personal correspondence, and promotional material related to the Las Vegas Recording Studio (1971-1985), songwriter agreements, and sheet music (the majority of the lyrics written by Hank Castro) from artists represented by the Las Vegas Recording Studio and Castro's other companies.

Kim Sisters Scrapbooks and Clippings

Abstract

The Kim Sisters material date from 1959 to 1966 and 1983. It consists of two scrapbooks and one folder of photocopied materials containing newspaper clippings about the appearances of the Kim Sisters muscial group throughout the United States as well as Italy, Germany, and Spain. It also includes two record album sleeves.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Marietta "Margie" Llorente Gonzales conducted by Cecilia Winchell, Vanessa Concepcion, and Stefani Evans on November 1 and 22, 2021 for Reflections: The Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. Margie Llorente-Gonzales discusses her upbringing in Manila, the Philippines and her family history within the country, recalling the lives of her parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. She talks about her childhood, educational pursuits, and courtship with her husband in the Philippines. Margie shares how she and her husband immigrated to the United States, how she adapted to her new life as an immigrant dependent on her extended family, and how she and her husband came to settle in Las Vegas. She talks about her artistic pursuits in the forms of dance choreography and performing, scriptwriting, broadcasting, and publishing newsletters. Margie also discusses her employment at McCarran Airport and her political activism, canvassing, and committee work in the Philippines and the United States.

Glenn Tredwell oral history interviews

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Glenn Tredwell conducted by Barbara Tabach on March 04, 2016 and April 14, 2016 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In the first interview, Tredwell discusses his family ancestry and his Orthodox Judaism upbringing. He talks about his childhood in Atlantic City, New Jersey and describes his family’s Christmas tree farm, potato farm, and wholesale produce business. He talks about his move to Florida, working at Lum’s, a hot dog restaurant, and further explains the company’s franchise success. Tredwell recalls attending the University of Miami, becoming a landscape artist, and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1976. He describes going to dealer school, card dealing at El Cortez and Caesars Palace, and co-founding the Spina Bifida Association of Nevada. In the second interview, Tredwell discusses being the Director of Marketing at Caesars Palace and compares gambling from the 1980s to the 1990s. He talks about his involvement in casino boat operations and his partnership with Millennium Displays. Lastly, Tredwell discusses the progress of his most recent projects.

Margo Mansergh Papers

Abstract

The Margo Mansergh Papers (approximately 1920-2010) document the life of former showgirl and dancer Margaret "Margo" Mansergh Tomaszewski. Materials include photographs of Margo modeling, backstage at various shows, portraits, and personal family photographs as well as programs from her international career performing in the Lido de Paris and Pigalle Nightclub in London, as well as a number of shows in Las Vegas, Nevada, such as Vive Les Girls, Casino de Paris, Minsky's Burlesque, and Lido de Paris at the Stardust. The collection contains materials from Mansergh's modeling career, including photographs, book covers, and images of her as an extra in films. Digital images from the closing Stardust performance and an event for Miss Bluebell are also found in the collection.

Oral history interview with Andrea Gardea conducted by Barbara Tabach on June 26, 2019 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. Gardea starts talking about her early life, family, and family history. She explains why she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2002 and why she chose to attend University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After, Gardea describes what happened before and during the Route 91 Harvest festival, what she experienced during the shooting, and her journey in escaping the scene. She talks about the aftermath of the shooting, the trauma and PTSD experienced, and her healing process. Gardea also talks about the making of Engelland’s Vegas Born Heroes Foundation in 2018, what they do, and what they represent. Lastly, she talks about her opinions on gun control and her viewpoint on making peace.
