Henry and Anita Schuster Papers

Abstract

Collection is comprised of correspondence, speeches, essays, meeting minutes, photographs, research materials, publications, press clippings, awards, and event programs (1941-2011) that document the life of Henry Schuster, and his work with his wife Anita. Materials are mainly related to the Holocaust and to Holocaust memory and survivor organizations (especially the Holocaust Survivor's Group of Southern Nevada, which the couple founded, and L’Œuvre de Secours aux Enfants). Genealogical information is also included, as well as records of Henry Schuster’s time in the U.S. Army and his studies at the Manhattan Technical Institute.

Kiel Family Photographs

Abstract

The Kiel Family Photographs (approximately 1854-1989) contains glass plate negatives of members of the Kiel and George families, as well as neighbors from the Stewart and Wilson ranches and ranch workers. The majority of the photographs were taken at the Kiel Ranch site in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection consists of the original glass plate negatives, as well as photographic print and negative duplicates made using the originals.

Abstract

The Vassili Sulich Photographs depict dancer and choreographer Vassili Sulich from 1950 to 2011. The photographs primarily depict Sulich dancing in ballets in France, Croatia, Germany, England, and the United States. The photographs also depict ballets choreographed or directed by Sulich at the Nevada Dance Theatre, which he founded in 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Maurine and Fred Wilson and Dr. William S. Park Photograph Albums (1900-1930s) consist of twelve albums containing black-and-white photographic prints and three black-and-white photographic negatives. The photographs are primarily related to the families of William S. Park, John S. Park, and Fred and Maurine Hubbard Wilson. Included are images of the Park homes in Las Vegas, Nevada; Park and Wilson family members; scenes of early Las Vegas, Nevada; outdoor activities, and vacation trips to California, Colorado, and Mexico.

Wayne shares his family's heritage and history as Japanese Hawaiians and discusses his father's internment during World War II. He shares his background growing up in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i and how he came to live in Las Vegas. Wayne discusses his career as an educator for the Clark County School District and talks about his life in Las Vegas with his wife and daughters. Subjects discussed include: Las Vegas Buddhist Sangha; Executive Order 9066; Sunset High School; Boulder Dam Area Council.

Oral history interview with Diane Meireis conducted by Claytee D. White on November 06, 2017 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Meireis discusses her experience at the 1 October shooting. She remembers hearing gunfire, the confusion in the crowd, and finding a safe place to hide. Meireis describes the collaboration of strangers, and feeling guilt for not being able to help others as she escaped the venue. Lastly, Meireis discusses her opinions of firearms.

Abstract

The JMA Architecture Studio Records are comprised of architectural records (1953-2002) created by the American architect Jack Miller and/or his architectural firm, known as both Jack Miller & Associates, Architects, & Engineers, Inc and JMA Architects, Inc. This collection includes 30.25 linear feet of materials documenting work on over 250 projects. The collection focuses on Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada. The materials feature photographs of the firm’s projects and hand-drawn architectural drawings, ranging from pencil and ink on tracing paper preliminary sketches to ink on Mylar (TM) construction documents. The drawings also contain work from a number of consultants, engineers, and other architects who collaborated on the development of the various projects. The collection includes architectural drawings for hotels, casinos, integrated casino resorts, office towers, multi-family residential developments, and custom single-family homes.
