Abstract

This collection is unprocessed; see the access note for additional information. The Robert Scott Hooper Photographs (approximately 1960-2019) consist of photographic negatives, positives, prints, Polaroids, 16mm films, videos, business records, correspondence, drawings, and ephemera. The collection was created by prolific photographer Robert Scott Hooper and his longtime business partner and wife, Theresa Holmes. The couple's life and business was based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hooper's work focused on the female form, encompassing many areas of interest including sexual entertainment, modeling, pornography, and Las Vegas entertainment. Hooper was a contributing photographer with Playboy and Vegas Visitor magazines. Hooper also photographed many celebrities, Las Vegas production shows, notable events like hotel implosions, and the development of the Las Vegas Strip, including early time-lapse work on the Luxor Hotel and Casino and The Venetian. This collection also includes business records, model contracts, and correspondence.

Abstract

The Jamey Stillings Photograph Collection (2009-2024) is primarily comprised of photographs taken by professional photographer, Jamey Stillings, of the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and the Hoover Dam project, the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System project, the Crescent Dunes Solar project, and Tapping the Colorado: Lake Mead and Lake Powell project. The Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and the Hoover Dam project depict the construction of the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge from 2009 to 2012. The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System project depict aerial views of Ivanpah Solar in the Mojave Desert of California from 2010 to 2014. The Crescent Dunes Solar project consists of a range of aerial and ground-based work documenting SolarReserve's Crescent Dunes Solar, a 110MW concentrated solar plant with molten salt storage near Tonopah, Nevada, from 2014 to 2015. The Tapping the Colorado project consists of aerial work documenting the historic critical water levels in Lake Mead and Lake Powell in 2021 and 2022.

Edith Giles Barcus Family Papers

Abstract

The Edith Giles Barcus Family Papers document the lives and work of three related individuals who lived in Goldfield, Nevada: noted mining engineer Edwin S. Giles who settled in Goldfield in 1907, his daughter Edith Giles who was raised in Goldfield, and Clyde Barcus, also a mining engineer, who came to Goldfield in 1923 and married Edith Giles soon thereafter. The papers date from 1848 to 1979 and document the business and personal lives of two generations of the Giles-Barcus family in Goldfield and Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection includes: property, commercial, financial, and mining records; mining and engineering reports; notes on minerals; correspondence; and photographs of the family, Goldfield, and travel shots of the western United States.

Abstract

The Southern Nevada Historical Society Photograph Collection on Basic Magnesium, Inc. contains photographs of the construction of Basic Magnesium Inc.'s plants and buildings from 1941 to 1942. The photographs primarily depict aerial views of the plant site and various buildings, including the administration building, tent camp, chlorination buildings, electrolysis facilities, electrical distribution systems, and warehouses. The photographs also depict Lake Mead and the early buildings in Henderson, Nevada.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Art Museum Records (1952-2009) contain administrative files, press, marketing materials, and scrapbooks that document the history of the Las Vegas Art Museum (LVAM). Collection materials include exhibition files, annual reports, financial statements, board meeting agendas and minutes, event invitations, press releases, and newspaper and magazine clippings documenting the museum's activities. Materials include photographs from museum events as well as photographs of artwork displayed as part of visiting and permanent exhibitions. Audio and video recordings include interviews with museum staff and local news coverage of events. Also included are architectural floor plans for the Sahara West Library, which was used as a gallery space for LVAM. Digital files in this collection include recordings and presentation slides from LVAM lectures with curators and artists. Other digital files include photographs from LVAM events and workings files from LVAM staff.
