Description

LaVerne Ligon discusses auditioning for the show Hallelujah Hollywood at the new MGM. She auditioned for Bob Mackie and Donn Arden, who wanted her to be topless in the show. She refused. Three weeks later, Donn Arden called her and said that she had changed his mind and he really wanted her in the show and she didn't have to go topless. In fact the entire line of Black dancers that he was putting together for the show did not have to go topless.

Description

Local news segment on Consumer Electronic Show, and the "home of the future" being built in the Stardust parking lot in preparation for CES. NextGen Home spokesperson Paul Trudeau speaks on how energy efficient this self-powering home is; video shows construction crews assemblying the home with the Stardust hotel tower in the back. The NextGen Home representative answers questions about the construction of the home, the interior features, and how these amenities are available to anyone building a home in Las Vegas. He references it being a "smart home" with electronics to set features to turn on/off automatically. Second segment shows interior features of the home, including ways to save space, safety cameras, automatic blinds, and much more. Third segment has an interview with Microsoft representative explaining all the wireless smart display features, and having high speed internet access in the home. Additional segments have more interior and exterior views of the home, as well as reporters presenting from the CES showroom floor. Cave Nightclub Records

Abstract

The Cave Nightclub Records (1992-1994) are comprised of materials generated during the planning and construction of the Cave Nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada. It opened in 1992 as a straight nightclub. It changed ownership in 1993, and reopened on September 3, 1993 as a gay nightclub and closed early in 1995. The collection contains policy documents, building plans, and promotional and publicity materials, as well as artifacts, including waiter uniforms from the nightclub.

O.C. "Boots" LeBoutillier Paintings

Abstract

The collection consists of two watercolor paintings donated and autographed by Las Vegas resident O.C. “Boots” LeBoutillier. The materials were painted and signed by Robert Carlin depicting the crash of Baron Manfred Von Richthofen's (the "Red Baron") airplane on April 21, 1918. LeBoutillier is also depicted in the paintings flying above as the "Red Baron" crashes after being shot down. The paintings were created approximately between 1970 to 1979.

Abstract

The Downtown Las Vegas Design Drawings (approximately 2011-2014) is comprised of seven design drawings created for select businesses located in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The drawings are colored on tissue and were created by BUNNYFiSH studio, an architectural firm located in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection includes three drawings for a porte-cochère at the D Las Vegas hotel; drawings for the exteriors of the Hydrant Club, Inspire, and HOP Downtown; and an interior drawing for Scullery.

Karen Allison Collection on Contract Bridge

Abstract

The Karen Allison Collection on Contract Bridge (1937-1997) contains instructional guides, pamphlets, and booklets explaining the rules and strategies for contract bridge, a card game. Included are correspondence and meeting minutes with contract bridge organizations with which Allison was associated. Also included are lists of players who participated in the Monte Carlo 5th World Bridge Olympiad in Monte Carlo, Monaco in 1976.

Abstract

The Ellen B. Jensen papers comprise the research notes, drafts with edits, carbons, and articles written by the Las Vegas, Nevada journalist Ellen Jensen who was the editor of and writer for the monthly Las Vegas Review Journal Jr. and writer for the Las Vegas Sun ("Sunday Scene") and Las Vegas Review Journal ("The Nevadan") from 1966 to 1969. Jensen wrote about many topics of interest to Las Vegans, including travel and recreation in southern Nevada, hotel and casino administration and construction, and local nightlife and entertainment.
