Oral history panel composed of University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) students Lisa McAllister, Larry Sampson, John Grygo, and Ashley Smith along with community narrators Jerrie Merritt, Geraldine Kirk Hughes, Keith Brantley, and Hannah Brown, moderated by Julia Lee and Claytee White on March 30, 2016 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: A Collaborative Oral History Project. The group discusses working with each other during the collection of oral histories for the project, the value of the interchange for both narrator and interviewer, the value of oral histories as repositories of individual and collective memory, and related stories about their experiences.

Oral history interview with Helen Manix conducted by James M. Greene on December 06, 1974 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Manix talks about the history of Boulder City, Nevada. She specifically talks about living conditions and her role as a mother in early Boulder City. She also talks about the Boulder (Hoover) Dam construction.

Oral history interview with Frank Rist conducted by William F. Vornholt on May 11, 1978 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Rist discusses his personal history working as a musician and owning a bar in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rist also describes the development of Las Vegas over the years and the distinctions between the different casinos and shows.

Oral history interview with Lela Holliday conducted by Jeff Stewart on February 29, 1980 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Holliday discusses her family background, growing up in Oklahoma, and eventually arriving in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1944. Holliday then describes early Las Vegas, the rapid growth of the city, and Las Vegas climate.

Oral history interview with Renila Gunlap conducted by Lisa Johnson on March 09, 1978 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Gunlap discusses her personal, generational, and occupational history in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also talks about her church membership, Stewart Ranch, and education.

Oral history interview with Robert Alfaro conducted by Iseel Lorello on April 21, 2006 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Robert Alfaro discusses his career in education in Fort Stockton, Texas. He describes his upbringing, his route to becoming a teacher, and his philosophies of education that eventually led to his role as principal. He discusses his job duties as principal, and provides advice for individuals considering educational principalship.

Oral history interview with Floyd Jenne conducted by Gordon Brusso on April 04, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Mr. Jenne discusses living and working in McGill, Nevada in the 1920’s and 1930’s. He offers insight into the school system in McGill, as well. He also speaks about working in Boulder City, Nevada as a police officer with the Bureau of Reclamation.
