Abstract

The collection contains material collected by Barbara Tabach to document the final days of the New Frontier Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada (2007). Included are brief oral history audio recordings and transcripts for approximately 50 individuals wo worked at or were customers of the New Frontier, as well as over 650 digital photographs of the people and the building. Also included is a digital video of the November 2007 implosion and a Las Vegas Sun newspaper clipping from September 1961 on the New Frontier.

Fourth-generation Nevadan, Las Vegas native, and great grandson of Mormon pioneer Edward Bunker, Richard W. Bunker knows Southern Nevada as few others do. For example, when Richard Bunker speaks of water, he talks about his father's family leaving their home after the completion of Hoover Dam because their little town of St. Thomas was submerged in the rising waters of Lake Mead; he recalls swimming at the Old Ranch pool, the Springs, and the Mermaid pool; he shares stories of hiring Pat Mulroy, mentoring her, and encouraging her to apply to lead the Las Vegas Valley Water District; he mentions the Dunes and its two fresh-water wells, the Sanitation District and wastewater treatment. Searchlight, Nevada City Council Meeting Minutes and Articles of Incorporation

Abstract

The collection is comprised of city council meeting minutes, articles of incorporation, and other materials spanning 1907 to 1918 that document the incorporation of the city of Searchlight, Nevada. Included in this collection is a bound ledger containing city council meeting minutes from January 1908 to December 1911; the Articles of Incorporation for Searchlight and the Official Act of Incorporation for Searchlight, Nevada; and correspondence and other records documenting the establishment of Searchlight as an incorporated city, establishment of a municipal election to elect public officials, and the separation of Searchlight from Lincoln County and the establishment of Clark County, which was made official in 1909 by act of the Nevada Legislature.
