Abstract

Oral history interview with Toni Carter conducted by Irene Rostine on March 06, 1992 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Carter discusses working as a researcher for Basic Magnesium Inc. in Henderson, Nevada during World War II. Carter then talks about being laid off after the war, but returning to work for the plant when management changed. Carter describes her research in working to create combustible formulas for incendiary bombs. Carter also talks briefly about working conditions for researchers.

Abstract

The C. C. (Clio Cline) Mobley Photograph Collection (approximately 1911 to 1917) consists of sixteen black-and-white photographic prints with corresponding photographic negatives. The images depict the Las Vegas, Nevada Ranch while the Mobley family leased it from the Union Pacific Railroad during the period. The photographs depict the home, swimming pool, the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort, and orchards and streams on the property.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Gustavo Ramos Jr. conducted by Laurents Bañuelos-Benitez on October 25, 2018 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Ramos discusses his family’s mestizo heritage and growing up in Presidio, Texas. He recalls moving to California in 1942, his experiences in high school, and his reliance on public housing at the time. Ramos talks about joining the United States Air Force and experiencing discrimination while serving. Later, Ramos discusses housing discrimination, being elected for City Council in Ontario, California, and his involvement in housing programs. Lastly, Ramos describes obtaining a position with the North Las Vegas Housing Authority in 1984 and being appointed Executive Director of Housing for North Las Vegas.

Stan Irwin oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Stan Irwin conducted by Cork Proctor on August 24, 2003 for the All That Jazz Oral History Project. In this interview, Irwin talks about his early life performing comedy in nightclubs, hotels, and casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada, writing comedic material, his military service, starting a family, and racism in the Las vegas entertainment industry in the 1950s and 1960s. He also discusses his work as vice-president and executive producer for Sahara Nevada Corporation, bringing The Beatles to Las Vegas, Nevada when all other hotels refused to do so, and the band's appearance at the Las Vegas Convention Center. He continues talking about being a comedian, actor, and special materials writer and his life since retirement.

Abstract

The William J. Moore Jr. Photograph Collection (approximately 1942-1960) consists of black-and-white photographic prints, negatives, and one oversize image depicting William "Bill" J. Moore Jr.'s career as a casino operator in Las Vegas, Nevada. Images include events at the Moore family home and the Hotel Last Frontier. Also included are images of Moore with politicians, casino operators, and other notable figures in Las Vegas.

Abstract

The United States National Park Service Photograph Collection is comprised of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives from approximately 1925 to 1950. Images include construction and remediation projects in Boulder City, Nevada; including Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and the surrounding recreation area. Also included are images of the Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada and Fort Churchill in Lyon County, Nevada; construction of tourist facilities at the Valley of Fire in southern Nevada; and landscapes taken along the Colorado River in Arizona and Utah.
