Heher also discusses the Helldorado parades and her experiences with the Union Pacific Train Depot in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.

Oral history interviews with Gail S. McQuary conducted by Joanne L. Goodwin on April 14, 1997, April 25, 1997 and May 28, 1997 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. McQuary opens her interviews with a discussion of her childhood and her introduction to dance in California. McQuary then talks about getting recruited to perform in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Sahara Hotel and Casino while performing at a fair. McQuary goes on to describe her dance career in Las Vegas and the other casinos where she worked. McQuary also talks about how dancing and shows in Las Vegas changed throughout the years.

Description

Following the October 1, 2017 killing of 58 people at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival on the Las Vegas Strip, the Las Vegas community responded in a variety of ways. Envisioned by activists and built by volunteers, the City of Las Vegas established the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden at 1015 S. Casino Center Boulevard to honor the victims and give family members and the community a place to gather to remember.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Steve Riback conducted by Barbara Tabach on December 12, 2017 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Steve Riback is a detective sergeant for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He has been with the police force for nearly twenty years. He reflects on his overwhelming pride of the police on October 1, 2017. Riback recalls what he heard on his police radio, seeing the rush of police cars being dispatched, and watching a body camera video later. Sgt. Riback’s squad was assigned to Spring Valley Hospital where they worked tirelessly to identify victims, both injured and deceased. His reflections stir the image of medical professionals and police officers urgently fusing together to handle the situation at hand. Riback shares a myriad of emotions, and talks about the options available for officers to deal with their personal trauma.
