Interview with Dorothy Eisenberg by Barbara Tabach on October 23, 2014. In this interview, Eisenberg discusses her upbringing on the east coast and becoming a widow with four children. She met her second husband at a synagogue, and they moved to Las Vegas for a fresh start. Eisenberg became involved with Temple Beth Sholom, and the Las Vegas League of Women Voters. She has a school named after her in the Clark County School District.

Dorothy Eisenberg is a first generation American, with roots in Ukraine and Central Europe, and grew up in Philadelphia. Judaism was a significant part of Dorothy's life from the beginning, and both her and her brother spent many of their afternoons at Hebrew school and most weekends at Shabbat services as adolescents. Eisenberg moved to Las Vegas with her children and second husband in 1964. She became an influential member of the community and served as the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas's first female president. She was also actively involved in the League of Women Voters of Las Vegas Valley, including leading the organization's advocacy for school desegregation and serving as its president for two years.

Hart, Nat

Nat Hart (1916-1995) was one of Las Vegas, Nevada’s original celebrity chefs, well-known for his restaurants at Caesars Palace and the Desert Inn, and for his popular gourmet cooking school. During the 1960s Hart was maître d' of Bacchanal, the main fine dining restaurant at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. He was promoted to Corporate Vice President of Food and Beverage in the 1970s and established new restaurants at Caesars World locations across the United States. In the 1980s he opened the Nat Hart Gourmet Cooking School in Las Vegas.

Abstract

The Babe Pier Papers (approximately 1962-2012) include promotional materials, photographs, and audiovisual materials documenting the career of Las Vegas, Nevada-based comedian and impressionist, Babe Pier. Materials include Pier's show reels, fliers, posters, and photographs of Pier as a solo entertainer and as part of comedy groups such as the Vagabonds and the Happy Jesters. The collection includes recordings of Pier's appearances on television shows like the Mike Douglas Show and Milton Berle's comedy special as well as his comedic boxing charity fights. Materials also contain personal photographs of Pier and his family, including his wife, Cindy Raft, who managed an entertainment agency and was also an entertainer in Las Vegas.
