Christie Young Papers

Abstract

The Christie Young Papers are comprised of Young's personal papers and journals between 1982 and 2011. These journals document Young's arrival to Las Vegas, Nevada and her involvement in several nascent Las Vegas lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) organizations from 1982 to 1985 such as UNLV's Lesbian and Gay Academic Union (LGAU). The collection also includes materials related to her life in San Diego from 1985 to 1995. The collection also includes typed transcripts of all journal entries that relate to the Las Vegas LGBTQ community.

Vivian Woods Papers (1960-1989) document the activities of Nevada artist Vivian Woods. The papers contain scrapbooks, correspondence, Las Vegas Artists' Co-Op history and rosters, a poem, and photographs. There are also three watercolors painted by Vivian Woods.

The Dorothy Dorothy papers (approximately 1913-1986) document the life of singer, songwriter, columnist, pilot, and farmer, Dorothy Dorothy. Also included are materials relating to her active involvement with animal rights campaigns.

Abstract

The Jeanne Russell Janish Papers span the years 1833 through 1994 with an emphasis on 1894 to 1994. The materials of the illustrator and watercolorist include her school records, research papers, diaries, and personal correspondence. There are two original book manuscripts, dried flowers, hand-woven rugs, a variety of art supplies and tools, and approximately 140 watercolor paintings and pencil sketches of various scenes and subjects, created in China, Florida, and the American Southwest.

The Mabel Hoggard Papers (1903-2011) contain materials related to Hoggard's career as a Las Vegas, Nevada elementary school teacher, her research and civic interests in Las Vegas's predominantly African American Westside communities, and her engagement with civil rights issues. The collection also contains materials about Hoggard's life, including biographical newspaper articles about her childhood, education, work, and family. The collection includes lesson plans, scrapbooks, awards, correspondence, photographs, and physical objects such as a vinyl record and political pins. The bulk of the collection focuses on her life in Las Vegas from approximately 1946-1989.
