Williams, Myrna, 1929-

Myrna Williams was born in Chicago in 1929. Her brother was the singer Mel Tormé, so the family moved to Hollywood when she was ten because her brother was under contract with MGM. Shortly after Myrna turned 21, she moved to New York to work for Decca Records. She met the jazz drummer David Williams, whom she married. Myrna, David, and their daughter Indy moved to Las Vegas in 1959. Myrna got involved in politics, and was elected to the Nevada State Assembly and to the Clark County Commission.

Gibson, Rachel Ann, 1913-2004

Rachel Gibson was the granddaughter of Nevada pioneers. Rachel was born in 1913 in Yerington. Her 1930 class was the first to graduate from Las Vegas High School, and Rachel received her Bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She taught first in Boulder City, then at the J.T. McWilliams Elementary School in Las Vegas. Rachel also was active in many community groups. Rachel passed away on April 25, 2004.

Butterfield, Stella

Stella Butterfield's family, the Goldbergs, was Jewish, and she was born in the Bronx. During World War II she worked for the Coast Guard in the steno pool in Washington, D.C. Stella moved to Santa Monica a few years later while the war was still going on and worked briefly as a riveter for Douglas Aircraft and then as a teletype operator for the Air Force but at Douglas Aircraft. Because she had a hard time getting a job because of antisemitism, she changed her name to Gilbert.

Segretti, Marguerite C., 1912-1990

Marguerite C. Segretti was born August 24, 1912 in Denver, Colorado to Melinda Pearl Cochran and Raymond G. Graham. She lived in Colorado until 1935 when she moved to California. She married John Joseph Segretti, a California native. The couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with their children in 1948. Sagretti later moved to Arizona where she died on December 10, 1990.

Iaconis, Stella, 1910-1998

Stella Champo was born in Moche, Italy on September 16, 1910. In 1912, the Champo family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. The family first lived in downtown Las Vegas, before moving to a small ranch south of the city in 1917. Stella Champo received her grammar school education in Las Vegas, Nevada and matriculated to Las Vegas High School in 1927.

Haselton, Velma, 1914-2009

Velma Haselton was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1914. She worked as an assistant bookkeeper for Hart, Schaffner and Marx and rose to Assistant Credit Manager. Velma worked at various jobs after she married for the second time and her son was born. She also represented the San Francisco CPA firm Lybrand, Ross Brothers and Montgomery (now Coopers Lybrand) in various capacities, both in California and St. Louis, eventually attaining the position of controller.

Porter, Irene E., 1943-2012

After Irene Porter's father's retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to Las Vegas where her aunt and uncle were involved in the gaming industry. After she married, she and her husband Dick moved to Boston. They moved back to Las Vegas due to the bad economy in Boston. Irene worked for the Clark County Planning Department as a secretary but moved up to doing the work of the director, but without the title nor the pay of that position, so she went to work in the planning department of the city of North Las Vegas and became its director of planning.
