Castro, Hank F., Jr. (Henry), 1924-

Hank Castro wrote lyrics and produced and engineered musical recordings during his career in Las Vegas, Nevada. Castro began his career in the music industry performing in Las Vegas nightclubs as a drummer in the duo act "Peter and Hank." Castro and Chips Davis founded the Las Vegas Recording Studio as a backyard operation for making song demos in 1967. Castro served as the studio manager and by 1971 the studio moved to a commercial space on Vegas Valley Drive.

Frassmann, Dorothy, 1931-

Dorothy Frassmann was born October 29, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. Right before her parents divorced while she was five, Frassmann moved to Canada to live with her great aunt. She moved back to the United States when she was ten years old because World War II started. She met her husband, Lewis, when she was 15 and he was 20 or 21; they married only a month after meeting each other in Texas. After a series of turmoil between Frassmann and Lewis, they got divorced less than a year later. She was left to support herself in Hubbard, Texas at the age of 15.

Dr. Tony Miranda grew up in Santa Maria and Santa Barbara, California. His father was a chef at the Santa Maria Inn, and the rest of the family spent summers picking strawberries in the surrounding fields.

Boiman, Jackie B.

Jackie Boiman (née Brooks) was born July 21, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Levittown, New York. Her religious connection began in the Levittown Jewish Center Sunday School and under the close relationship she had with her grandmother, who kept kosher and inspired her to do so.

Dahan, David, 1957-

David Dahan was born January 23, 1957 in Casablanca, Morocco. After a hasty departure in 1970, the family came to America and to Las Vegas, Nevada. By 1977, he married an Israeli nurse named Yaffa, who died in 2007. Her legacy is the Yaffa Dahan Nursing Education Fund, which Dahan established to assist outstanding nursing students in their dissertation research.

Garside, Sherwin Frank, 1915-1986

Journalist and photographer Sherwin "Scoop" Garside was born in Tonopah, Nevada in 1915. He was the son of Frank Garside, an owner of many newspapers, including the Las Vegas Review, which became the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 1929. Sherwin Garside moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when his father purchased the Las Vegas Review in 1926. Garside graduated from Las Vegas High School, where he earned the nickname "Scoop" writing for the school newspaper, The Desert Breeze.

Poster, Jay

Jay Poster was born October 16, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in San Diego, California.

Music brought Jay Poster to Las Vegas for a brief time in 1974. Jay wanted to pursue a musical career and his cousin was a professional musician with the Nat Brandwynne Orchestra at Caesars Palace. Poster left Las Vegas to return home to San Diego and his studies at San Diego State University. It would be over a decade later before Jay returned to Las Vegas to live and this time it became permanent.

Herst, Charlene

Charlene, née Friedkin, Herst was born in 1946. When she was eight years old, she moved to Las Vegas in 1954 with her parents Patricia and Richard Friedkin.

Charlene raised four children (Hayley, Rochelle, Tracey and Harry) as a single mother, graduated from UNLV in 1995 with a communications degree, and managed to build a career that touched the well-being of the Nevada population in many ways.
