Allen, Philip W. (Philip Wymer), 1918-

Philip Wymer Allen was born August 3, 1918 in Russell Iowa.

Allen obtained a bachelor of science degree from Parsons College in Iowa in 1940; one year of education at Iowa State College in 1941; Associates degree in Meteorology from the University of Chicago, Illinois in 1942; and one year of education at UCLA in 1967.

Allen was active in the United States Army Air Corps from June 23. 1941 to January 16, 1946.

Allen married Jean Luers Allen May 12, 1946.

Barth, Delbert S.

Delbert Sylvester Barth was born on July 16, 1925, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Delbert married R. Lucille Barth on July 10, 1946, and they had four children: Delbert II, Christopher, Deborah, and Diana.

Barth retired from his position as Rear Admiral at the Nevada Test Site but remained at the United States Public Health Service and the Test Manager’s Advisory Panel.

Barth was director of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Research Center in Las Vegas.

Lynch, Denny, 1903-1995

Charles Denny Lynch Sr. was a newspaper editor in Pahrump, Nevada. He was born on September 18, 1903 in Hillsboro, West Virginia and moved to Pahrump in 1976. Dissatisfied with newspaper publications at the time, Lynch started the Pahrump Tribune which ran between 1979 and 1983. In 1979, he also wrote the book A History of Pahrump Valley. Lynch married his wife, Nora Agnes Waggoner in 1928. In November 1995, Lynch was hospitalized at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada where he later died on November 8, 1995.

Kwon, Myoung-ja Lee

Myoung-ja Lee Kwon was born in 1943 on the grounds of the Kyongbok Palace in Korea. Her father’s occupation as a university professor which gave the family a higher status and allowed them to live in a state of prosperity. But war changed these circumstances. In 1965, after graduating from Seoul National University, Kwon got married and moved to the United States of America, where a year later she earned a Master’s degree in Library Science from Provo, Utah.

Semenoff, Sasha

Sasha Semenoff (1924-2013) was born Abram Shapiro in Riga, Latvia. Sasha played the piano at age 6 and got his first violin at age 9. In a 2009 Las Vegas Sun interview, Sasha told the story that while being transported to a concentration camp a German Nazi soldier saw him holding a mandolin and instructed him to play “La Paloma.” To his great fortune, he was able to do so and always felt that that moment saved his life.
