Stay, Evaline, 1882-1947

Evaline Stewart was born September 22, 1882 to Helen and Archibald Stewart on the Las Vegas Ranch located Las Vegas, Nevada. She was known to her family as Eva, and she was educated on the ranch until 1897, when she was sent to California with her other younger siblings to further their education. She returned to Nevada after her education and married Clarence Archibald Stay in 1917. She had four children, Clarence Jr., Francis, Evaline LaVega, and Clinton. Evaline Stewart Stay died on August 1, 1947 in Las Vegas.

Stocker, Oscar Wellington, 1872-1941

Oscar Wellington Stocker was born on April 1, 1872 in Easton, Pennsylvannia. Oscar married Mayme Virgina Clifton on December 26, 1891 in Reading, Pennsylvania, who would later become the first person to hold a legal casino license. He and his wife had three sons, Clarence, Harold, and Lester. The family left Pennsylvania in 1904, eventually settling in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1911. Oscar worked as an engine foreman for the railroad yards in Las Vegas and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainsmen. He passed away on September 10, 1941.

Stocker, Mayme V., 1875-1972

Mary Virginia Clifton was born to Annie May Richards and George William Clifton on September 5, 1875. She married Oscar Wellington Stocker on December 26, 1891 in Pennsylvania. The couple had three sons, Lester, Clarence, and Harold. The family moved west and settled in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1910. Mayme Stocker operated the Northern Club on Fremont Street. She later sold the property to Wilbur Clark and it was renamed the Monte Carlo Club. She died at her home in Las Vegas on December 12, 1972.

Virignia Logan was a resident of Henderson, Nevada who lived in Nevada since 1927. She was born February 7, 1917 in Percel, Oklahoma. Her hu

sband was George Logan, who she had three sons and one daughter with. She died January 24, 2005.

Nusser, Grace A., 1898-1952

Grace A. Nusser was born in approximately 1898. She married George F. Nusser in Santa Ana, California on August 20, 1923, who worked for the Bureau of Power and Light in Los Angeles, California. They later moved to Boulder City, Nevada on June 1, 1936. Grace A. Nusser killed George F. Nusser on April 27, 1937, and was sentenced to life in Nevada State Prison for first degree murder. She served approximately a year and a half in prison before being transferred to the Nevada State Hospital in Reno, Nevada in approximately 1939. She died June 9, 1952.

Dokter, Betty Ham, 1922-1990

Betty Ham Dokter was born May 20, 1922 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Church was one of the main activities for everybody in school, and she went to every church in town during the summertime. Dokter graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1940. She met her husband at a drive-in and they got married during World War II.
