Tecopa, 1815?-1904?

Chief Tecopa was a Paiute tribal leader who was the first leader to sign a peace treaty with a foreigner in Southern Nevada. Tecopa was born in approximately 1815 in Southern Nevada and was made a chief early in his life. Chief Tecopa and Captain John Moss negotiated a peace treaty that ended settler—Native American conficts that date back to the late 1700s. After the peace treaty was signed, Chief Tecopa named John Moss a member of the Paiute tribe and when Moss passed away, he honored Moss with a Paiute funeral ceremony. Chief Tecopa passed away in approximately 1904.
