Oral history interview with Lance Evans conducted by Stefani Evans, Claytee D. White, and Michael Beiler on Jun2 13, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Evans talks about growing up in Glendale, California where his father encouraged him to participate in sports from a young age and coached his baseball team. After receiving a full ride scholarship to Oklahoma City University, Evans graduated with a degree in criminal justice. He discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada and starting his family and working with Las Vegas hotels in sales and marketing. This experience led him to work at the Wynn and then the MGM. Evans transitioned to work primarily with the sports teams that wanted to play in Las Vegas. New Jersey repealing the Professional Sports Amateur Betting Act had Evans further committed to sporting events. He notes the importance of the Vegas Golden Knights and how their success paved the way for other professional sports teams. Evans then goes into detail about the various professional teams and events that have come to Las Vegas. From the Raiders, Aces, Formula 1, the Super Bowl, and the NCAA Regional Championships, he believes that all provide a huge benefit to Las Vegas’ economy and tourism.
