Oral history interview with Christopher Cain conducted by Stefani Evans on February 2, 2026 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Cain talks about his early life growing up in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey amongst a family that loved sports. Cain’s father helped pique his interest in sports from a young age, particularly golf. This love of golf led him to the golf management program at Pennsylvania State University where he achieved both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Cain goes on to discuss how much he enjoyed the golf management program at Pennsylvania State University. With a small class, the entire program felt intimate and caring. Upon graduation, Cain joined Pennsylvania State University as the head professional of golf operations and managed their golf courses and events. After a few years of working on the East Coast, Cain had the opportunity to visit UNLV in 2004 for a potential job offer, and hasn’t left since. Here, Cain has thrived and grown the golfing community even further. He has served on the Board of the Professional Golfers Association of America’s Southern Nevada chapter since 2004 as well. Cain goes on to talk about how golf management classes have grown at UNLV, golfing simulations have improved, and how the sport promotes integrity and discipline. He wants to continue raising the bar for his students and staff, and continues the open door policy that benefitted him so much while attending Pennsylvania State University.
