Oral history interview with Daniel Knight and Hans Riehemann conducted by Stefani Evans on January 2, 2026 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Knight and Riehemann discuss the history of tennis in Las Vegas, Nevada and how they helped bring the sport to Spanish Trail Country Club. Knight was born in Fremont, Nebraska but grew up in Rochester, New York and moved to to Las Vegas at the age of 13. Riehemann was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and spent his childhood moving between Canada, Germany, and the eastern United States before landing in Las Vegas. Both discuss the growth of tennis in Las Vegas, and fondly remember their time both playing and coaching. Riehemann remembers coaching different celebreties like Tony Bennett and Joan Rivers, and the beauty of the courts at casinos like the Desert Inn and Sands Hotel. Both reminesce about watching the Agassi family train and compete, and make note of other tennis champions like David Pate and Lornie Kuhle. Digital audio available; no transcript available.
