Scope and Contents

Oral history interview with Brett Hawke conducted by Stefani Evans and Steven Butler on November 12, 2025 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Hawke talks about his early life growing up in Sydney, Australia, and how swimming helped him in many aspects of his life. Hawke started competing at 13 and was able to compete for Australia in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. After moving to the United States and attending Auburn University, Hawke finished his bachelors degree in 2008 and shortly after became the temporary assistant swimming coach for his alma mater. Hawke discusses his coaching mentality, showing up for his athletes and always believing in their abilities. Hawke then went on to coach children’s swimming clinics for five years, eventually becoming the CEO of Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics. During the COVID-19 shutdown, Hawke started a podcast to talk to swimmers and coaches about their love for the sport, and all news relating to swimming. This podcast led him to interview an Australian swimmer who had joined the Enhanced Games, and Hawke was intrigued. In 2025, Hawke became a full time coach for the Enhanced Games. He then goes on to explain the ethos of the Enhanced Games, how they are contributing scientific research, and the first year of the games coming up in 2026.
