Oral history interview with Erick B. Harper conducted by Claytee D. White on October 29, 2025 for the Game On! The Oral History of Sports in Las Vegas proejct. In this interview, Harper describes his childhood in Denison, Texas as one of nine children, and recalls playing many different sports as a child. He attended Kansas State University and after graduation, Harper began working at Kansas State University in the athletics department, honing his fundraising skills. He later worked at University of Arizona, and later moved to become the Director of Athletics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He talks about his work to create an environment where student athletes feel supported, and has an open-door policy for all student athletes. Creating an environment where coaches, advisors, and students truly want the best for themselves and those around them has led Harper to great success with the athletics department, for which he is very proud.
