Oral history interview with Bob Coffin on September 9, 2025 conducted by Stefani Evans and Bethany Dayton for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Coffin describes his childhood, growing up in the Las Vegas, Nevada Huntridge neighboorhood. He talks about his early life enjoying the parks and developing a love for sports, especially baseball, football, and golf. After a brief time in the army and sports writing for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, he enrolled at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He recalls after graduating with a degree in accounting, he took over his father's petroleum distribution company before selling his share and working in insurance. In 1981, Coffin was in a severe car accident that left him with a broken spine, and his wife took care of him as he healed. Coffin grew interested in politics during this time, and began managing campaigns in Nevada before winning his first position in the state assembly in 1982. During this time, his love for golf grew, and he spent much of his free time golfing in the city. After a successful career in the state assembly, Coffin left in 2010 due to term-limits but immediately ran for city council in 2011 and won. Deciding not to seek re-election, Coffin retired in 2019. He has spent his retirement enjoying golf. Digital audio available; no transcript available.
