Abstract
The African American Experience Community Scanning Day Photograph Collection (approximately 1958-1980, 2004) is comprised of digital surrogates of photographic prints and ephemera that document the experiences of the African American community in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials were donated by members of the Las Vegas community as part of a community scanning day event hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas's University Libraries in 2013.

Biographical / Historical Note
Documenting the African American Experience in Las Vegas was a large-scale, grant-funded community-driven documentation project (2012-2016) of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) University Libraries to collect, preserve, and make accessible the history of African Americans in Las Vegas, Nevada. The project started in 2012, when a community advisory board identified cultural heritage organizations with collection materials and created a website to serve as an online portal to centrally deliver content. The project website includes over 4,000 digital items which include text, images, and multimedia. The online portal also includes over 70 oral history interviews conducted by the UNLV Libraries' Oral History Research Center. In 2016, the final phase of the project was completed with the Vegas PBS produced documentary
