As usual, the stage is bouncing with hilarious mayhem. Senior partner Eddie Jackson, ap- parently recovered from his illness, does more in this show than he did last time around, and junior partner Sonny King is the target of most of Durante's side- splitting physical abuse -?╟÷ almost a literal term, since Jimmy hit him in the side with his elbow and doubled him up. Durante received the President's Award from the American Legion Founders Wednesday night when his birthday was celebrated onstage, and this week Variety Club Tent 39 of Las Vegas will present him with a special citation in appreciation for the many chari- table things he's done both for the local group and the national organization^ The Variety award to Durante is crjiighlight of the Variety Week celebration which fnjfe^unday. The Paint- ed Desert Room rocks with ?╟úyocks?╟Ñ as Jimmy (in person) Durante cavorts with EDDIE JACKSON, SONNY KING, JACK ROTH and JULES BUFFANO. The audience is in stitches but it would seem that Sonny King is the one who really needs them. Sonny is the per- fect foil for the ?╟úrugged?╟Ñ Durante and (once in a while) gets a chance: to de- liver beautiful notes with his fine voice. Eddie Jackson struts as only he can as he brings home ?╟úBill Bailey?╟Ñ and Jimmy keeps them all (including his harem) in confusion and none more so than Maestro CARLTON HAYES and his Orchestra as they keep the music up to the Durante tempo.
