    2Dr Bracken did not arrive on the stage this evening. The next stage arrives from Caliente the 13th. However I find lots to do I have put on a good shake roof on the house that had only a poor piece of canvas over it which makes a good house now I have fixed doors windows porches floors etc and have made quite a change about here already. You must know the Stewarts never repaired any thing and the [?] never did any thing that they could get an Indian or a white man to do and for the men about here to see the boss work gives them a new idea and I believe it has a good effect. If I had some good tools and more material to work with I would [come] put everything in good working order here. The last load of freight Mr Allen brought me from Manvel had on about 500 feet of rough lumber which [was?] at Manvel $37.50 for 1000 ft and weighed 3 lbs per foot freight 1 1/4 cts making it cost here $75.00 per 1000.
