I went to Las Vegas in the interest of personal information regarding the general plant and operations of the L.V. L&W Co. I arrived on No. 2 9:30am, left on No. 1 5:00pm the same day. Mr. Bracken, our courteous agent at Las Vegas, met me at the train and made it his pleasure to show me everything and to post me on all things so far as time and my personal experience enabled me to grasp. I spent the entire day going over all the land and water plant, operations and incidentally a short trip through the R.R. shops and general store. I relate what I saw regarding the L.V. L. & W. Co.First, we walked over the "townsite" area and the surronding territory. I was shown the limits and given the location of the water mains and power lines, also shown samples of used wooden water mains and the difficulty of making its steel bands withstand the terrible eating effects of the gypsium which the land at Las Vegas contains to a remarkable degree. We examined the company houses thoroughly. They are well kept and with few exceptions, have neat cropped lawns, and yards full of vines, flowers and shade trees. The tenants take pride in their little homes and the houses present no signs of rough usage.
