Scope and Contents

The International restaurants series is comprised of menus dating from 1858 to 1920 from hotels and freestanding restaurants in twenty countries. The majority of this series dates from 1858 to 1899, and includes menus from well-known eateries of the late 19th century, including the Hotel Cecil, Savoy, Cafe Royal, and Trocadero. Many of the menus are for private special events, holiday banquets, and foreign banquets held in honor of royalty and dignitaries. Menus listed at the item level are in numerical order by digital identifier, when present; remaining menus are grouped by event type.
