Biographical / Historical Note
The LGM-118 Peacekeeper, known as the MX missile (for Missile-eXperimental) was a United States program started in 1986, although the roots of the project can be traced back to the 1960s. Under the START II treaty, the missiles were to be removed from the United States nuclear arsenal in 2005. Despite the demise of the START II treaty, the MX was decommissioned on September 19, 2005.
