Biographical / Historical Note
Pahrump Valley High School is part of the Nye County School District in Southern Nevada, which is the largest school district in the contiguous forty-eight states by area, and the fifteenth largest in the United States. The district serves seventeen schools, including Pahrump Valley High School which was built in 1974.
Pahrump, Nevada is an unincorporated town located about sixty-two miles west of Las Vegas, Nevada. It was originally inhabited by the Southern Paiute people but white settlers invaded in the late 19th century. Until the 1960s, Pahrump had no telephone service and no paved roads in or out of the Pahrump Valley. However, as Las Vegas grew, telephone service and the construction of a paved highway between Las Vegas and Pahrump began during the late 1960s. Since the late 1970s, Pahrump grown steadily, and as of the 2010 census there were just over 46,000 people living in the town.
