The Arturo Amaya Papers (1994-2017) are comprised of photographs and periodicals representing Amaya's involvement with the Latinx community in Las Vegas, Nevada. In particular, the photographs document activities of the Las Vegas Peruvian Cultural Heritage Association that Amaya founded. Biographical / Historical Note
Arturo Amaya was born in Peru in 1958, the oldest of seven children born to Isabel and Alfonso Amaya. Amaya studied law and established a criminal prosecuting office in Peru. He was later elected to the district attorney's office where he continued to work on criminal cases. After visiting his brother in Las Vegas, Nevada, Amaya decided to immigrate with his family in 2003. He helped establish the Peruvian Cultural Association and the Peruvian Chamber of Commerce of Nevada in Las Vegas.

Processing Note
In 2020, Tammi Kim minimally processed the collection. Materials were rehoused, files were transferred off of one optical disc, and a brief summary description made of the contents in ArchivesSpace. No further work has been done on the materials.
