Oral history interview with Ralph L. Canfield conducted by Mariann McDuffee on March 21, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Canfield discusses different housing developments in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Las Vegas Strip hotels and casinos, Lake Mead, Nevada’s environmental quality; prostitution, and atomic testing.

Scope and Contents Note

Oral history interview with Ralph L. Canfield conducted by Mariann McDuffee on March 21, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Canfield discusses different housing developments, including tent houses on the eastside, the Las Vegas Strip hotels and casinos; the development of transportation in Las Vegas, Nevada including the railroads and McCarran Airport, Lake Mead’s water supply and recreation, prostitution in Roxy Motel, and the radiation that came from the atomic testing site. During this interview, Mr. Canfield is with his father William Canfield, his mother Grace Johnson Canfield, friend Dave Bexing, and wife Lillie, who also make some remarks throughout the interview.
