Biographical / Historical Note
Sahara Resorts, formerly known as the Del Webb Corporation, opened the Sahara Hotel and Casino in 1982. In 1987, Sahara Resorts retained 63 percent of Sahara Casino Partners, a master limited partnership formed by Paul W. Lowden. After the merging of Sahara Resorts and Sahara Casinos Partners in 1993, the company was renamed Sahara Gaming Corporation. In 1995, Lowden sold the Sahara Hotel and Casino to William Bennett and in the following year Lowden renamed the company Santa Fe Gaming Corporation. Lowden sold the Santa Fe Hotel and Casino to Station Casinos in 2000 and in 2001 renamed the company to their current name Archon Corporation.
