Biographical / Historical Note

The Fun One bowling league was established in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1985 with the sponsorship of Nevadans for Human Rights (NHR). Fun One was the Las Vegas LGTBQ community's second bowling league. The first was the Las Vegas Gay Bowling League (LVGBL), established in 1978. The LVGBL bowled their first tournament as a league at the former Showboat Hotel in Las Vegas on February 25, 1979. The Fun Ones originally bowled at the former El Rancho Hotel and Casino, before switching over to the Showboat Hotel and Casino in the early 1990s. The league eventually moved to the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino. In 2004, the LVGBL shut down and the remaining members joined the Fun Ones.

The Fun One bowling league is a member of the International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO). The IGBO began in 1980 and has grown into the largest gay and lesbian sports organization in the world, with over 250 member leagues. The IGBO participates in fundraising, as well as provides education and social opportunities to promote the sport of bowling.

The Fun One bowling league continues to operate out of the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino, serving as a social outlet for members of the LGBTQ community of Nevada.
