Abstract
The David L. Weide Research Papers (approximately 1954-2000) are comprised of materials that represent Weide's research on geographical issues in the western United States. Collection materials include reports, U.S. Geologic Survey maps, and field notes as well as scholarly articles published by Weide. The collection also includes Weide's notes from classes and research from when he was a graduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Biographical / Historical Note
David L. Weide earned a B.S. in Geology from California State University, Los Angeles and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Geology from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1973, Weide joined the Department of Geoscience at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) at a time when the department only included four faculty members. He served as chair of the department from 1989 to 1993 and helped establish the Master's and Doctoral programs. Weide's research interests included urban geologic hazards such as flood hazards, unstable soils, tectonic-seismic hazards, and mass movement. His work extended beyond scholarly articles and extended into government and consulting reports, as well as geologic maps. Throughout his career, Weide worked with the U.S. Geological Survey, the University of California Archaeological Survey Office, and with the State of Nevada Earthquake Safety Council. Weide retired from UNLV in 2004. He passed away on June 25, 2008.
