Abstract

The Greg Cava Photograph Collection (approximately 1980 to 2003) is comprised of work created by Las Vegas, Nevada photographer Greg Cava. It includes photographs, negatives, and slides that document Las Vegas entertainment, sporting events, and hotel-casino development. The collection also includes material from Cava's time as photographer for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) athletic events, including photographs, programs, and media guides from the UNLV basketball and football teams.

Scope and Contents Note

The Greg Cava Photograph Collection (approximately 1980 to 2003) is comprised of work created by Las Vegas, Nevada photographer Greg Cava. It includes photographs, negatives, and slides that document Las Vegas entertainment, sporting events, and hotel-casino development. Some of the subjects photographed by Cava include portraits of prominent business and political individuals, landmarks, casino construction and demolition, residential development, and University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) sporting events. Some images are accompanied by assignment sheets and model releases. The collection also includes material from Cava's time as photographer for UNLV athletic events, including photographs, programs, and media guides from the UNLV basketball and football teams.

Series I. Chronological shoots, 1987-2003;

Series II. UNLV Athletics material, approximately 1980-1999.

Biographical / Historical Note

Greg Cava is a photographer who grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from Bishop Gorman High School and attended the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California. After graduating from the Art Center with a bachelor's degree, Cava worked as the team photographer for the Oakland Raiders from 1982 to 1987. Cava went on to work as a contracted photographer for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas athletics. In particular, he was a photographer for the UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team during the 1990 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament National Championship game against the Duke Blue Devils. Cava owns his own business, Cava Photography, which specializes in commercial and editorial portrait photography. He also teaches photography at Bishop Gorman High School.

Acquisition Note

Materials were donated in 2016 and 2018 by Greg Cava; accession numbers 2016-057 and 2018-040.

Processing Note

Collection contents were re-boxed in archival cartons by Tammi Kim in 2016. In 2018 Maggie Bukowski accessioned the 2018 addition and updated the finding aid. In 2020, Sarah Jones further revised the inventory using the donor's provided description and updated the ArchivesSpace finding aid.
