Abstract
The Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas and Paradise Valley Records document the activity of two Las Vegas, Nevada chapters of the women's advocacy group Soroptimist International from 1968 to 2000. The records contain membership information, by-laws, correspondence, scrapbooks, publications, memoranda, and ephemera about women's issues, environmental concerns, and the club's activities in the Greater Las Vegas and Paradise Valley chapters. The records also contain information from conferences held by Soroptimist International, including audio cassette recordings of speeches and presentations.

The Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas and Paradise Valley Records document the activity of two Las Vegas, Nevada chapters of the women's advocacy group Soroptimist International from 1968 to 2000. The collection consists of information on the Greater Las Vegas and Paradise Valley charters' administration and activities. The collection includes administrative, financial, and membership records; events and programs; audio and video cassettes from conferences; environmental publications; awards, trophies, and plaques; scrapbooks and photographs; meeting minutes and agendas; newspaper articles; directories; committee reports and forms; correspondence and memoranda; pamphlets; newsletters; and various handbooks.

Biographical / Historical Note
Soroptimist International was founded in 1921 in Oakland, California with the mission of promoting gender equality and women's welfare. There are 1300 Soroptimist chapters in nineteen countries around the world. The name "Soroptimist" loosely translates from Latin as "best for women." Soroptimist International engages in community services and projects aimed at improving women's lives, including: career development programs for teen mothers; tutoring women in literacy; job skill seminars; and funding domestic violence programs and shelters. The clubs in Las Vegas, Nevada were chartered in 1968.

Materials were donated in 2002 by Claire Kurlinski; accession number 2002-006.
Processing Note
The collection is unprocessed. A rough inventory of the accession was created in 2002. To prepare the inventory, the described materials were reviewed to create a contents list, estimate dates, and identify material types. No other work has been performed on the materials. In 2014, Lindsay Oden wrote the collection description and subsequently entered the data into ArchivesSpace. In 2015 Joyce Moore added an additional accession and entered the date into ArchivesSpace.
