Abstract
The Historic Building Survey Collection (1930-2001) contains materials on the preservation of historic buildings in Southern Nevada, Arizona, and Utah from Dr. Ralph Roske's History 117 course taught at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The collection is comprised of surveys which include descriptions, photographs, blueprints, newspaper clippings, pamplets, and fliers related to historic houses, businesses, and public sites.

Scope and Contents Note
The Historic Building Survey Collection (1930-2001) contains materials on the preservation of historic buildings in Southern Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. The materials come from Dr. Ralph Roske's History 117 course taught at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the 1970s and 1980s, and are mostly comprised of surveys of buildings conducted by students during multiple semesters. The surveys include and typed information describing the size, material, and history of the buildings, as well as photographs and blueprints. Some files also contain pamphlets, business cards, event invitations, newspaper clippings, or fliers related to the buildings. Surveyed buildings include businesses, houses, and public sites. The collection also contains a name tracing project from multiple semesters of Dr. Roske's class, which had students compile a list of places individuals lived over the course of their lives.

Biographical / Historical Note
Ralph Roske's History 117 course at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) focused on the history of Southern Nevada and surrounding areas. Students in the early-1970s through the mid-1980s created projects including oral history interviews, local business history tracings, and historic building surveys that collected the history of the region. The historic building surveys collected architectural histories of local sites that ranged from demolished cabins on public lands to businesses in the heart of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Materials were donated in 1974 and 1977 by Ralph Roske; accession numbers 1974-76 and 1977-223.
Processing Note
In 2018, as part of an archival backlog elimination project, Billy Marino rehoused and arranged the materials, wrote the finding aid, and entered the data into ArchivesSpace. In 2020, Sarah Jones revised the description and added a file-level inventory.
