Abstract

The Hank deLespinasse Photographs (approximately 1960-2002) contain the professional work of Hank deLespinasse while working in Las Vegas, Nevada. The photographs document a variety of events in the region. DeLespinasse photographed for Sports Illustrated and covered regional news events for TIME, Newsweek, and other local, national, and international publications. The collection contains 35mm, 120mm, and 4x5 film, slides, and contact sheets. Assignment numbers (also referred to as set numbers) are included when provided. Some assignment folders also contain contracts, newspaper clippings, and shoot-specific notes taken by deLespinasse.

Photographs document entertainment, politics, UNLV campus and sporting events, and professional sporting events in Las Vegas from the 1960s to early 2000s. The collection also contains stock images of Las Vegas and other locations taken by deLespinasse. Materials consist of 35mm, 120mm, and 4x5 film, slides, and contact sheets. Materials are organized into five general areas: Las Vegas, Nevada assignments; Las Vegas, Nevada stock images; professional sporting events; collegiate sporting events; and general stock images.

Biographical / Historical Note

Hank deLespinasse was born August 8, 1943 in Washington, D.C. to Franklin and Helen deLespinasse and grew up in Redmond and Salem, Oregon; Subic Bay, Philipines; Hubbard, Oregon; and Lompoc, California. He graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Hank moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in October 1965 and began his career in photography. Hank photographed for Sports Illustrated and covered regional news events for Time, Newsweek, and other local, national, and international publications. Hank passed away November 14, 2017 at the age of 74.
