Scope and Contents Note
The Bob Stoldal Collection of Nevada Sheet Music (approximately 1865-1995) contains the personal sheet music collection of Las Vegas, Nevada newsman and historian Bob Stoldal. The materials include sheet music, advertisements, periodicals, and postcards related to Nevada. The sheet music depicts the Nevada state song, "Home Means Nevada," and other songs relevant to Nevada history throughout the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Though the entire state of Nevada is generally represented in the collection, emphasis is placed on Las Vegas, Nevada. This collection also contains digital scans of the sheet music covers.

General Note
This collection contains illustrations which depict Black individuals in racist caricature, white individuals wearing blackface, and some song titles include derogatory language or racial slurs. Blackface was and is culturally insensitive and racist. This and similar materials in this collection do not mirror the views of UNLV Libraries Special Collections and Archives, but serves as a portrayal of the social mindset and occurrences of the time that it was produced.
Biographical / Historical Note
A longtime resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, Bob Stoldal has been widely recognized as a local newsman and historian. In 1967, he was hired at KLAS-TV as a news anchor and reporter, where he was promoted to News Director in 1968. He retired from KLAS-TV Channel 8 in 2008, and decided to dedicate his time to the distribution of historical information and interpretation in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Stoldal is Chairman of the Board for the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society as well as the City of Las Vegas Historical Preservation Commission. He also serves on the Nevada State Commission on Cultural Affairs, the Board of Preserve Nevada, and the Board of Directors of the Mob Museum. Stoldal has collected thousands of postcards from the history of the City of Las Vegas, in addition to ephemera from local hotels and casinos such as the Moulin Rouge. Stoldal’s goal is to display a history of Las Vegas that depicts more than political figures, and aims to highlight the more common, everyday life in the city of Las Vegas.
