Biographical / Historical Note

Clara M. Crisler (1882-1957) lived in Carson City, Nevada and spent much of her life chronicling the history of Nevada through scrapbooks and building a large personal library. She was also an active member of women's clubs in Reno, Nevada.

Clara M. Crisler was born to William and Minnie H. (Pohl) on November 6, 1882. She graduated from Carson City High School and then attended Chico State College in California. Crisler designed the second state flag for Nevada, in use from 1915 to 1929. In 1923, President Harding appointed her Register of the United States Land Office in Carson City, Nevada, an office she held until 1934. She held leadership positions in women's clubs, including the Nevada Federation of Women's Clubs. She passed away on March 25, 1957 and is buried in Carson City, Nevada.
