Abstract
The International Food Service Executive Association (IFSEA) Records contain the organizational records from the IFSEA dating from 1916 to 2010. Included are meeting programs and minutes, menus, conference reports and proceedings, financial reports, newsletters, award certificates, scrapbooks, and stewards and caterers records focusing on the hospitality and food service industry. Materials are from both national and regional branches of the organization and include records from the United States military, with whom IFSEA has partnered with since the 1960s. Club artifacts and trophies are also contained in the collection.

Biographical / Historical Note
The International Stewards Association was founded in 1901 as a national professional organization for stewards. The International Stewards Association (ISA) merged with the Caterers Association in 1932 and the organization assumed the name International Stewards and Caterers Association (ISCA). The organization again changed its name to Executive Stewards and Caterers Association (ESCA) in 1957 and adopted the current name International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA) in 1976. The IFSEA is a nonprofit professional organization that provides its members with educational courses and certification opportunities related to the food service and hospitality industries. Members include restaurateurs, caterers, executive chefs, equipment manufacturers, food suppliers, students, and emerging professionals. IFSEA holds an annual convention and has partnered with the United States Military since the 1960s.

- 1901
- Members of the Detroit, Michigan Steward's Club (formed in 1900) meet in Buffalo, New York for the purpose of organizing a national association.
- 1905
- International Stewards Association (ISA) is incorporated under the state law of Illinois.
- 1911
- ISA establishes the first Stewards Training School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- 1915
- Detroit Convention publishes a yearbook and the first history of the Association.
- 1919
- International President John R. Dignan (Chicago Branch) sets the stage for a show in Chicago billed by the Chicago newspapers as "the greatest hotel exposition ever held." This is the forerunner of an event held every year in Chicago by the National Restaurant Association.
- 1921
- The Association magazine is titled "International Steward" (later renamed HOTLINE).
- Proposes constitutional amendments that would permit women in ISA and establish a Death Benefit Fund for widows.
- 1927
- Denver branch urges the establishment of a catering industry school in every city where there is a branch of the Association.
- Thomas Phelps Jones in the annual President's Message calls for legislation to require all canned goods to be stamped with date of canning.
- A merger is proposed between the ISA and the American Caterers Association.
- 1932
- The merger is completed and the International Stewards and Caterers Association (IS&CA) is incorporated, again under the laws of the state of Illinois.
- 1937
- President William A. Heaman re-designs the Association emblem, which has the hands at all points of the compass.
- 1942
- The Rochester Branch celebrates its third anniversary by honoring its founder Peter Gust Economou.
- 1957
- The name is changed to the Executive Stewards and Caterers Association (ESCA).
- 1960
- The name is changed to the Food Service Executives Association (FSEA).
- 1976
- The name is changed to the International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA).
