Biographical / Historical Note

In 1966 Milton Prell purchased the Kings Crown Tally Ho in Las Vegas, Nevada, and after three months of renovations, reopened the property as the Aladdin Hotel and Casino. In 1974 construction began on a proposed fifty-million dollar expansion including the seven hundred room Tower of Majesty and the Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts. These new additions would open to the public in 1976 with music icon Neil Diamond as the first performance in the new theater. Over the next two decades, the property and its owners would deal with financial and legal troubles, forced closures, and ownership changes. In 1998 everything except the theater and the marquee sign was imploded and construction began on the new Aladdin. The new Aladdin opened in August 2000, which later experienced financial problems and entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September 2001. In 2003 the property was sold in bankruptcy to Planet Hollywood International, Inc. and Starwood Hotels and Resorts, and after four years of renovations, the property reopened in 2007 as Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort and Casino.
