Abstract

The Cork Proctor Photograph Collection (1960s-1980s) primarily contains black-and-white photographic reproductions of early Las Vegas, Nevada; the Cal-Neva Lodge at Lake Tahoe, Nevada; and various celebrities. The collection also includes black-and-white photographic prints of the Helldorado Parade. Cork Proctor was a comedian who performed throughout Nevada and the United States.

Biographical / Historical Note

Cork Proctor was born on July 22, 1932 in Wisconsin. His family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1940s, where he attended Las Vegas High School. During the 1950s he worked as a valet at the El Rancho Vegas, and then as a lifeguard at the Sahara Hotel and Casino. He later worked as a musician, traveling with several bands until the 1970s, when he first performed his stand-up comedy act. His career as a comedian, which spanned over 40 years, took him to various venues across the United States. Cork Proctor currently resides in Ecuador.

Acquisition Note

Materials were donated in 2002 by Cork Proctor; accession number 2002-012. Materials were collected by the director of the Arnold Shaw Popular Music Research Center and transferred to Special Collections and Archives.

In 2019, as part of an archival backlog elimination project, Christina Lamoureux wrote the finding aid and entered the data into ArchivesSpace.
