Biographical / Historical Note
Robert "Bob" Weinstein was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 15, 1942 to a large family. Weinstein moved to California in 1960 to become a professional poker player but after six months he joined the United States Air Force. He met and married his wife in December 1962. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1966, and opened a bookstore with his brother, Jerry, in Los Angeles, California. He left after about seven months, but later opened the Book Treasury in Long Beach, California in 1975. In 1978, he bought a second bookstore with a partner in Los Angeles. In 1979, he sold that store to his partner and opened the Book Baron in Anaheim, California. Book Baron evolved into a 20,000 square-foot bookstore, and was named "Best Used Bookstore in America" by USA Today. The store closed in 2007 when Weinstein retired. Throughout his career, Weinstein also operated three additional bookstores, five baseball card shops, a wholesale sports card distribution, comic shop, and an online auction house. Weinstein first joined Gamblers Anonymous (G.A.) in 1982, had a 17 day slip, and returned on March 31, 1983. He served as chairman of the G.A. Board of Trustees, and the Board of Regents (Directors) for over twenty years. Weinstein also served twenty-one years on the California Council on Problem Gambling, and on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Self Help Center and Inland Empire Self Help Center. He credits G.A. to a successful life and career.
